Alexander Low ENC1101 Date: 12/2/12 Assignment: Compare/ Contrast Forrest Gump: Movie Better Than Book Have you ever watched a movie that was made off of a book, but the movie was better? Well if you have ever watched and read Forrest Gump, you would find out that the movie has well surpassed the book. In both stories the main character Forrest Gump goes through a series of misfortunate events that eventually turn him into an American hero and millionaire. In each event of his life he meets new people and befriends them due to his kindness and stupidity. This also could be for the reason of feeling bad for him, but is not mentioned in either story. Even though he has an IQ of below normal, he still can be very smart in certainâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦The book took the story to far out of reality, but the movie also has a scene that just could happen either. In the beginning of the film Forrest has an extreme back problem that causes him to have to wear leg braces. But one day while being chased by bullies, they magically break off and he becomes perfectly fine again. This isnâ â¬â¢t as bad as Groomââ¬â¢s Forrest that gets sent to space as a punishment for throwing his war medal at the porch of the Capitol building and hitting the Clerk of the U.S. Senate in the head. Thatââ¬â¢s not all though. While in space, the spaceships malfunctions and crash lands in a lake on an island that is populated by cannibals. Once he is saved he becomes a famous wrestler to save money for the shrimp business. Once that fails he plays chess in a huge tournament to try and win the prize money, and while doing this he some how also becomes a movie actor. All these events seem very too unlikely to happen making the book much more unrealistic than the movie. The people who made the movie took the novel and turned it into a story that could be a personââ¬â¢s true-life story. Getting rid of all the unnecessary parts that had nothing to do with the main point of the story like going to space or becoming a wrestler. They made a movie that won many awards and would never b e forgotten by any one who saw it.
